A couple miles north of Edwardsville, IL and 3 miles ESE of ALN (St
Louis Regional). Best info I have is a biplane. A pilot who witnessed
it said it was trailing smoke, impacted, went 30 yards and flipped.
Fire department had difficult time getting to isolated rural site
because of locked gates and weak bridges.

Look close at the location of the main landing gear and the
planform. I think it is an Eagle 150 built by Eagle Aircraft Pty
Ltd. In either case, it's sad and my thoughts and prayers go to the
families that lost somemone today.
Take care . . .

Low-mounted front wing, high-mounted rear wing, no horizontal tail,
forward-angled main gear mounted just behind the cockpit: it's a Tri-
Q, a tricycle version of the Quickie 2.

Although it may not be worth very much . . . I agree with you guys, I
was mistaken. It was a Quickie Q-2, not an Eagle 150.
take care . . .

No problem. I'm certainly no expert on types.
Every crash is a tragedy. As has happened to most of us at some time
or another, this one came so very close to home. Though I didn't know
the pilot, he was based at the same airport we are. It happened about
3 miles from our house. In my office I have a scanner monitoring
police, fire and aviation frequencies. A pilot, I believe a pipeline
patrol, witnessed the crash but rescuers had difficulty getting to the
site becasue of locked gates and muddy fields. So many tried to help.
Such a desperate, helpless feeling. ;(
